Prof. Upol Ehsan makes AI systems responsible and explainable so that people who aren't at the table don't end up on the menu.

He is a Computer Science Professor at Northeastern University, a Berkman Klein Fellow & Faculty Associate at Harvard University, and an affiliate at Data & Society. He earned his PhD at Georgia Tech where his work invented the field of Human-centered Explainable AI. He publishes regularly at top-tier peer-reviewed venues ACM CHI, HCII, and AAAI AIES. He has worked at Microsoft Research, IBM Research, and Google. His work has won numerous international awards and has been covered in press like CNN, MSBNC, Fox News, MIT Tech Review, and VentureBeat. He serves on multiple government-level AI task forces globally (US, EU, and SE Asia). His work is actively used by the United Nations, NIST, Mozilla Foundation, and Center for Democracy and Society to govern AI systems.

Outside research, he serves on the boards of startups. He is also an advisor for Aalor Asha, an educational institute he started for underprivileged children subjected to child labor.

Prof. Ehsan recently served as the keynote speaker for the first ever National Responsible AI summit in Bangladesh.
