General Counsel

Zynda Sellers joined MMI in 2007 as its first in-house attorney complementing the organization’s strong compliance program. During her tenure, she has assumed numerous roles including forming and leading MMI’s Information Security and Safeguards Committee, Compliance Committee, and internal review program. In her current role as General Counsel, she provides legal advice on regulatory compliance, contract law matters, facilities, and litigation. Moreover, she represents the organization and sector, providing testimony to legislative and regulatory bodies. In recent years she has organized sector-wide initiatives to improve the legislative and regulatory environment to ensure high quality services may be provided across the country. Ms. Sellers has also participated in the organization’s strategic planning initiatives for new programs and workforce maximization.

Prior to joining MMI, Ms. Sellers worked in the credit counseling sector, gaining experience in corporate bankruptcy law along with the sector’s heavily-regulated environment. Before attending law school, Ms. Sellers taught high school English for the Virginia Beach City Public School System, with an emphasis on helping disadvantaged students write well. Ms. Sellers earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Trinity College of Arts and Sciences at Duke University.

She earned her Juris Doctor from the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Virginia and is licensed to practice law by the Virginia State Bar. Ms. Sellers has served as a Trustee for the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies and is a member of the Advisory Council for the Alliance for Responsible Consumer Legal Funding.
