Local nonprofits unite to help promote financial education

Posted on March 14, 2016

SAN DIEGO (March 14, 2016) – Money Management International (MMI), the nation’s largest nonprofit credit counseling and financial education organization, is partnering with local nonprofit agencies in San Diego to facilitate our San Diego Financial Education Week Blitz. MMI will be providing local consumers with hands-on financial education and long-term resources for ongoing financial needs, with the goal of helping consumers plan for a successful financial future.

The Homeownership Center at the National Asian American Coalition, the San Diego Housing Commission, Neighborhood House Association, San Martin De Porres STEP Center, MAAC Project, and the Col. Solomon Child Development Center are providing host sites for MMI staff to teach key financial programs to clients and staff.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide approximately 25 hours of financial education to a variety of groups,” said Julie Griffith, Regional Director for MMI. “Our focus is to provide education and resources directly to those in need, and to provide training to frontline staff at agencies across San Diego. We would not be able to accomplish this educational blitz without the assistance of our partners.”

Two sites will be hosting Building Financially Savvy Communities, a train-the-trainer program. This program is designed to teach area nonprofit and government staff how to instill financial education within their current services. Those attending will earn an MMI designated certification, which will allow them to utilize MMI instructional materials and receive on-going support.

To further support the San Diego community, MMI will be hosting a series of financial education webinars. The webinars can be found at MoneyManagement.org.

Programs held during the San Diego Financial Education Week Blitz are free to the public due to the generosity of foundations across the San Diego region.
