NCAA Players to Benefit from Nonprofit Credit Counselors

Posted on October 31, 2012

(October 31, 2012) – Dallas, Texas student athletes from Division I, II, and III schools from across the nation are invited to take part in important financial literacy programs and services offered at the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in Dallas, Texas, November 2 – 4.

The financial education programs, offered at the event by Money Management International (MMI), are designed to build the necessary knowledge and skills to assist students in making informed financial decisions to reach long-term financial success. The training offered through the program helps players take the necessary steps to gain a better understanding of strategies centered on personal finance topics such as creating and maintaining a budget and spending plan, managing debt, improving credit reports and scores, and accumulating wealth through effective savings strategies.

“The Student-Athlete Leadership Forum provides pertinent and customized sessions that will enhance personal awareness and leadership skills needed to impact student-athlete’s development at the campus and conference level, as well as beyond the collegiate realm,” said Ron Brewer, assistant director of leadership development for NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs. “We are pleased to have Maura Attardi from MMI at the event to conduct financial prep sessions for over 300 of our student-athletes.”

“We’re excited to work with the NCAA Student-Athlete Affairs and to offer event participants appropriate financial education resources,” said Maura Attardi, regional director of financial education for MMI. “Our in-person workshops provide an opportunity for students to develop short- and long-term financial goals, create a realistic monthly budget, and establish savings strategies to assist them both today and tomorrow.”
