Grant offers those facing foreclosure a unique opportunity for counseling and mediation

Posted on October 28, 2011

SPOKANE, Wash. (Oct. 28, 2011) – The nation’s largest nonprofit credit counseling agency, Money Management International (MMI), is proud to announce an exciting opportunity for struggling homeowners in Washington State.

MMI was awarded a grant through the Washington State Housing and Finance Commission to provide for housing counseling and mediation referrals for qualified homeowners facing foreclosure. This program is designed to help homeowners and their lenders reach a resolution regarding their home loan.

The only way to qualify for mediation is through a certified housing counseling organization, such as MMI, or through an attorney. Free housing counseling is available to help Washington State homeowners determine the best course of action. Our HUD-certified counselors are experts in foreclosure prevention and can discuss available options for curing your delinquent home loan and create an action plan for successful homeownership.

All homeowners are eligible to participate in MMI’s foreclosure prevention counseling. However, to qualify for mediation assistance homeowners must meet the following criteria:

  • House is in foreclosure.
  • Homeowner was residing in the home when they received the notice.
  • Homeowner has not filed for bankruptcy protection or is not in the midst of a bankruptcy.
  • House has not been sold.

If you are not sure if you qualify, or if you have any questions about the counseling and mediation process, don’t hesitate to call a counselor at today. Please call 866.515.2227 to secure an appointment.
