Great post! All things I can easily do. Coupons are definitely something I will be using in 2010.
Another good one that i realized isn't on here is to carpool and split the gas / parking costs. I mean that alone could save hundreds in gas for not only yourself but friends / coworkers as well if you're all going to the same place.
Ditch your car. Use public transportation when available, including paratransit services, or join a community group which can provide transportation. Rent a car if you absolutely need to.for short periods of time.
1. make them pay... a service has screwed up at it has cost you time or money, dont just accept an apology, ask for one for free, or an upgrade, or a partial refund. Car dealership mechanic did my brake job wrong upon my return the service mgr. apologized and corrected problem. I asked for and got an oil change and detail in addition at no charge.2. Take you grocery receipt to other food stores and compare item by item to see who is actually cheaper...so far no one has beat wal mart in my area (houston, tx). and their generic items are as good as brand items.3. As indicated barter for a better price. this seems to be happeing more ofter than not with success...as it should, since so many items have 2, 3, and 400% markups. How would you explain a company putting a $500 suite on sale for $150.00?
When you get change back from a cash purchase, save all the "change". Separate and save all the silver coins for at least a year. I do save the pennies, yet when I get $5.50 worth, I roll up $5.00 worth, take them with me the next time I am out and cash them in at my bank for a crisp five dollar bill and start all over. I NEVER use "change" when making a cash purchase. Banks will generaly give the penny wraps on request.
